John 8

Dear class,

1)  I'm sorry that I kind of let everyone have it this week in regard to "casting stones."  I'm a flawed teacher.  But the principal is true.  We can be so much more careful, kind and understanding as we interact with others. Please remember that all of the "laws," standards, and commandments, hang upon the two great commandments.

Matthew 22:36-40:
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

When we truly seek the Savior, we will go about--as he did--"doing good."  Let his example in John 8 be our guide in how to be with those who live the "law" imperfectly.  (A.k.a. All of us!--this includes yourself and self love!)

Original painting by allentan. (If you print it off, turn it upside down, there's a surprise.)

2)  Here is the first document I referenced in this week's classes: "An Anatomy of Troubles."  I have read and listened to this talk a number of times and still glean truth from it each time.  The ability to separate sin from adversity helps us view others, ourselves and God in a more divine way.  I hope you will print off a copy and read it (again and again.)

The second article is from the July Ensign, 1976, and is a great compilation of canonized doctrinal sources about "calling and election."  For those of you who have expressed an interest and desire to know more about that, I would recommend this article as a starting point.

Love you all.
